Culture
This part of England is rich in cultural heritage. The city of Lancaster possesses much of historical and architectural interest. To the East lies Kirkby Lonsdale, a small but perfectly delightful Georgian town of picture postcard beauty, filled with independent shops, good places to eat and a wealth of architectural interest.
The gateway to the Lune valley, from here you can explore north to Sedbergh and beyond into the Howgill Fells or south through some very attractive small villages down to Lancaster and the Forest of Bowland.
North west beyond the Kent Estuary lies Cartmel, home to the historic Priory, a picturesque race course and truly a foodies’ paradise. There is a frequent local producers’ market, for the gastronomically minded, exquisite Michelin ** dining and of course, let’s not forget the famous Sticky Toffee Pudding!
We are blessed in this locality with plenty of other, perhaps more affordable but nevertheless very good, places to eat and drink and will be please to offer our recommendations. Other local places of interest well worth a visit include Sizergh Castle, Levens Hall, Holker Hall and Kendal, the historic county town of Westmorland.
