Eating and Drinking
There are lots of places to eat and drink locally. In Silverdale there are:
The Silverdale Hotel - Decent pub grub, nice beer garden.
The Royal - Bistro
The Woodlands Hotel (Woodie’s) - A truly idiosyncratic experience, much favoured by the locals, serving inexpensive guest beers, ciders and snacks.
Cinnamon Spice - Asian dishes, takeaway is also available.
Here are just a few of our favourites from slightly further afield:
Trungs, Bolton le Sands (Tel. 01524 732841 for reservation) - Great service and excellent Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine. Takeaway is also possible.
Far Pavilion, Bolton le Sands (Tel. 01524 823316 for reservation) - Friendly Asian restaurant serving a wide range of really well-cooked specialist dishes. Takeaway is also possible.
The Strickland Arms, Sizergh - Excellent gastropub food and well-kept guest beers in a characterful inn with a relaxed atmosphere.
The Sun Inn, Kirkby Lonsdale - As above, with bells and whistles!
The Lunesdale Arms, Tunstall - Chic and stylish, offering southern Mediterranean and tapas style dishes with decent vino.
For gastronomy, most people head to Cartmel - a foody paradise, with two restaurants owned and run by Simon Rogan (L’Enclume boasts 2 Michelin Stars and Rogan & Co holds 1 Michelin Star), a good cheese shop and of course, the original sticky toffee pudding! There is a food market every 3rd friday of the month too.
Alternatively, try Hipping Hall at Cowan Bridge on the A65 Skipton Road, a few miles beyond Kirkby Lonsdale (01524 271187). The food is simply excellent. By the way, our son Nick made the dining tables and his partner Michelle is a chef there (so we’re not biased at all!!)
We can offer other recommendations too.
